TOEFL

The TOEFL, Test of English as a Foreign Language, is a widely accepted and highly regarded English language test in the world. The US-based “Educational Testing Service” (ETS) develops and administers the TOEFL. ETS is responsible for setting questions, conducting the test and sending score reports to each examinee.
The TOEFL has an excellent international reputation, thus, is recognized by more than 9,000 colleges, universities and agencies in more than 130 countries including Australia, Canada, the U.K. and the United States.

Test format

There are two formats for the TOEFL test. The format you take depends on the location of your test center. Most test takers take the TOEFL iBT test. Test centers that do not have Internet access offer the Paper-based Test (PBT).

The TOEFL iBT test is administered via the internet. The TOEFL iBT tests all four language skills that are important for effective communication. It assesses your English proficiency on a scale from 0- 30 in each of the four skills: Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking.
The four sections (listening, reading, speaking and writing) take a total of about four and a half hours to complete and each section is taken online. Of these, Speaking and Writing are Integrated Tasks since they involve listening and reading tasks before answering questions. The total score is 120.
